Floral decor at Disa Primary School

Published: Tuesday 29th of January 2019

In December we were fortunate enough to do the floral decor for Disa Primary School’s year-end function. What a fabulous experience. Disa Primary is a state-of-the-art, no-fee primary school situated in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay.

The brief was big, bold and long-lasting flowers with proteas and fynbos being the focus. Doing a few sketches and a mock-up was very valuable as it helped to test ideas and visualize how we would fill the spaces.

We decided on plinths to showcase the products. The brief required that we use glass vases so we were able to include fun details inside the vases. These were combined with large dramatic free-standing arrangements.

For the tables we used Aralia leaves on which we put a row of vases forming a continuous runner down the middle of each table. We used different colours, textures and heights to form an interesting but colourful feature.

We created a runner along the front of the stage using Ice Queen proteas interspersed with pops of orange Lilies.

It was such a pleasure working at Disa Primary - we were treated with such warmth and respect by both staff and pupils.
